Minneriya National Park is located between Habarana and Polonnaruwa. Total park area is 8890 hectares. This is the one of eco tourism location of Sri Lanka. The park is consists with mixed evergreen forest and scrub areas. Minneriya National Park is home to Sri Lankan sambar deers, leopards and elephants. The park is famous for ancient Minneriya Tank too.









During the dry season (June to September), this tank is an incredible place to observe the elephants who come to bathe and graze on the grasses as well as the huge flocks of birds (cormorants and painted storks etc..) that come to fish in the shallow waters.
