Namal Uyana is the place that anybody can feel wonders of natural, history and geographical changes at once. So Namal Uyana is important in environmently, archeologically and geographically. This is the oldest man-made forest in Sri Lanka. Total forest area is over 260 acres.
You can see wild animals such as Tiggers, Bears, Birds, and Elephants etc… in Namal Uyana Forest. And also there are 72 varieties of herbs here.
The history of Namal Uyana goes back to the time of king “Devanampiyatissa” . Who ruled our country at the beginning of the Anuradhapura kingdom. This forest is consists with Naa Forest, Largest Deposit of Pink Quartz in South Asia, Namal Maha Saya, Beds of Fossilized Plants, Ancient Ruins and Temples.
According to Ven. Wanawasi Rahula Thera, the pink quartz found here have 550 million years of history. It is believed that this pink quartz has been used for window fitting of Taj Mahal.
