The Elephant Rock (Ethugala) – Kurunegala


Kurunegala is the royal capital (from the end of the 13th century to the start of the 13th century )and also important cross town linking many ways to visit various towns from the Kurunegala. Puttalum Road, Anuradahapura Road, Kandy Road, Colombo Road are some of the important cross roads. The unique value of the Kurunegala town is Elephant Rock (325Mtrs.). It resembles an elephant. . According to a legend, when during drought, the animals threatened the city's water supply, they were magically turned into stone, Situated at the foot of the 325km black rock Etagala there are excellent views of across the lake from the Top.

To reach top of the Elephant Rock, you have to walk 1.9 Ktrs. from the bottom. You can reach the rock by two ways. One is the natural way (Climbing the rock) and the other one is main road which is spread to the top from the bottom. During the journey, you can feel natural beauty and also can meet jackanapes, Butterflies, Birds etc…
