Wasgamuwa National Park




Wasgamuwa National Park is located in Matale and Polonnaruwa districts. The eastern boundary of the park is Mahaweli River and Amban River bordered the park from western and northern boundaries. Park is consists of 36,948 hectares and stands unique among most of the national parks in Sri Lanka. It is the only National Park in the Central Province where one could see elephants in their natural habitats. Wasgamuwa was declared a National Park in 1984.









Wasgamuwa National Park is home to variety of flora and fauna . Within the park you can see 23 species of mammal such as elephants and bears, 143 birds, 8 amphibians, 17 fresh water fishes, 17 reptiles, 50 butterflies and 150 plants.
